Whether through bad endings, or disloyalty to source material, these projects got it wrong in a rough way.

Larry David might have tried to make up for his mistake in his Curb finale, but there is no sidestepping the fact that Seinfeld’s ending is one of the least popular in history. Personally, I have no problem with it, but boy did people hate it back in the day.

Into the Woods
The second one of the most celebrated musicals ever cast James Corden in a leading role, you knew it was off to a bad start. Seriously, the movie couldn’t do the show less justice.

We haven’t even seen this show’s last season yet, but spacing out filming so much has completely destroyed any momentum the phenomena once had. One of television’s greatest first seasons will instead go out with a whimper.

Gossip Girl
When your entire hit show is based on a secret “gossip girl,” you’d better know who it is. Instead, showrunners had to pick someone before the series came to an end, and created numerous plot holes in the process.

Star Wars: The Sequels
There are perhaps no movies more hated than the Star Wars sequels. One could argue they were held to impossible expectations, but they were an incohesive and lore-damaging mess, that effectively ended enthusiasm for what was once the world’s most popular fandom.

Deep Space 9
When actress Terry Farrell asked to move from a main, to a recurring character late in the show, producer Rick Berman decided to kill off her popular character Jadzia Dax in anger instead. The result ruined multiple characters and their storylines as the show came to an end a year later.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
But wait, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is a fantastic movie you say. Yes, it is, because its decision to kill off one of pop culture’s most beloved characters was so unpopular, it forced them to make a whole new movie to resurrect him.

Here it is, television’s most controversial ending. Personally, I think it’s a fantastic ending, and that’s art. But apparently we live in a society that needs everything spelled out for them.

What’s worse than the “it was all a dream” cliche? How about, “boom, your whole show just got exploded for no reason.” That’s how writers decided to end 1974’s Little House on the Prairie. I guess that’s one way to end things.
